CSA Liability Orders

What is a Child Support Agency Liability Order?

A Child Support Agency Liability Order (CSA Liability Order) refers to an order made on a self-employed individual to enforce a judgment. As an attachment of earnings is more difficult to enforce on self-employed individuals, CSA Liability Orders are used.

If a debtor is believed to be able to afford to pay child maintenance, a CSA Liability Order is made in a Magistrates' Court. If the debtor is unwilling to pay, the judgment may be registered.

CSA Liability Orders will appear on the Register as either satisfied or unsatisfied, and will remain on the Register for six years from the date of judgment unless removed by the court.

How does a CSA Liability Order appear on the Register

The information appearing on the Register is as follows:

  • Defendant details - name and address
  • Case number
  • Amount
  • Date of registration
  • Satisfaction details once Registry Trust has been notified by the CSA office

Satisfying/Removing a CSA Liability Order

When a CSA Liability Order is paid in full, you will need to notify the relevant CSA Office which will then instruct us to update the Register.

If it was paid within a calendar month from the date of registration, and the relevant CSA Office is notified, we will be instructed to remove the record from the Register.

We do not hold partial settlement information for CSA Liability Orders.
